Dentist Appointment: Fighting Pain with Fire

I wouldn't say that I'm afraid of going to a dentist. I'm simply aware that the procedure will likely be painful and am intentionally trying to avoid the experience. Overall, it's not a bad strategy... unless you wake up at 3AM because your lower jaw seems to be trying to drill a hole through your right eye. A painkiller and few miserable hours later, one chooses the lesser evil. And whether I'm going for dental implants or fillings, there's always anesthesia... which, on second thought, had proven to be the worst part of the experience, since I bit my lower lip soon after leaving the dentist's office. The actual time spent in the chair wasn't too bad. Once I got over the idea that the various shiny metal drills were there to poke around my teeth, I realized that my tooth had stopped hurting entirely. The relief was worth sitting through the drills, lamps, mirrors and the cement like thing the dentists use for fillings. In short, dentists hurt you for your own good.
